Project Description:
In accordance with the City Council adopted Airport Business Plan, this project includes the earthwork for the 100 foot wide extension of the existing Runway 18-36 from 4,014 feet to 5,300 feet and for the extension of the west parallel taxiway.
Project Rationale:
Extension of the runway will allow operations of a greater variety of business class aircraft under a greater range of weather conditions. This project will serve to improve the airport and allow more corporate jets to use the facility. These improvements should increase the economic value of the airport to the city. In addition the existing west parallel taxiway is located at 225 feet from Runway 18-36, which is less than the standard separation for a Class C airport. The taxiway is to be relocated to 400 feet from Runway 18-36, which meets the Class C standard.
Status Details:
Crawford, Murphy and Tilly (CMT) began the design in May, 2011. Application for environmental permits have been submitted. The design is approximately 80% copmplete and construction can begin in fall 2013 if land acquisition is complete and the FAA Grants are in place to fund the project.
