This project involves the purchase of properties adjacent to the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport as shown on the Airport Layout Plan approved in March 2000.
This land acquisition is required in order to provide Runway Protection Zones RPZ's)for the extension of Runway 18/36; to provide RPZ's for both ends of Runway 11-29; and to provide development area for the construction of a new terminal and new hangars to replace the existing hangars that will be demolished to meet FAA airport design standards.
The process of land acquisition includes surveys, appraisals, Environmental Site Assessments, and negotiations. The process is underway for all of the properties involved. The City has acquired thirteen of the tracts and has one offer pending.
The surveyor and appraiser have completed all of the surveys and appraisals for the remaining tracts.
The land acquisition program for the airport is on hold pending the outcome of the Airport Business Plan.

$6,500,000
This Project began on June 3, 2008. The project consisted of the development of a new parallel taxiway on the East side of the Airport and an aircraft parking apron area. Also included were installation of wildlife fencing, clearing of obstructions in the runway protection area, and the remarking of both runways. The work was performed by Emery Sapp & Sons.
The Masterplan for the airport includes upgrading the airport to a C-II airport. The west parallel taxiway is too close to the north-south runway (R/W 18-36) to meet the C-II standards. A new terminal area needs to be developed on the east side of R/W 18-36 before the existing terminal and some hangars can be removed, allowing the relocation of the west parallel taxiway.
With the exception of final seeding in some areas, this project is complete. Seeding will be performed within the specified dates for seeding in the spring of 2010.
