Project Description:

The new Fire Station 2 consists of approximately 4600 sq. ft. of living/office space and approx 4,500 sq. ft. of apparatus bays. All work is considered traditional construction with no special systems or equipment. The 1.28 acre site is located at 2000 NE Rice Road, near the intersection of NE Rice Road and Colbern Road.

Project Rationale:

Fire Station No. 2 is currently located at 1101 NE Colbern Road, approximately 1/4 mile from the new location. It is a small building on a small site, which does not allow for drive through manuvering for the fire apparatus. In 2007, voters approved the no tax increase general obligation bonds for funding multiple capital improvement projects, including the new fire station.

Current Project Status:

Grading operations began on August 9, 2009 and as of August 18, is 20% complete. Low expansive limestone screenings have been placed on the building pad in preperation for foundation excavation to begin.
